Educational Qualification

Ship Draftsman Trainee (Mechanical):

• Pass in SSLC.
• Three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education securing minimum of 60% marks.
• Must have flair for Draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.

Ship Draftsman Trainee (Electrical):

• Pass in SSLC.
• Three-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education securing minimum of 60% marks.
• Must have flair for Draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.

Note: Applicants without prescribed qualification but having higher qualifications such as B.Tech, M.Sc, etc. shall not be considered.

Training & Career Prospects

• Training period shall be for two years.
• Performance evaluation at the end of the first year. Second-year training provided only to successful candidates.
• Depending upon organizational requirements, availability of vacancies, and individual performance, successful candidates may be considered for contractual posts for a period of 5 years, at the discretion of CSL.
• Training involves visits and inspections at shop floors, dry docks, and on-board ships under construction, which require climbing vertical ladders, passing through manholes, and working in confined spaces.
• CSL is not liable for regular appointment of trainees during or after the completion of two years of training.

Selection Process

• Step 1: Online Application Submission
• Step 2: Scrutiny of Applications & Shortlisting
  • CSL reserves the right to scrutinize applications and prepare a shortlist based on eligibility requirements.
  • Only shortlisted candidates may be permitted to attend the selection process.
• Step 3: Certificate Verification
  • Candidates must produce original certificates in proof of age, educational qualification, and reservation categories along with self-attested copies.
  • Only candidates who successfully complete certificate verification shall be permitted to attend the Practical Test.
• Step 4: Practical Test (100 Marks)
  • Candidates are required to prepare a drawing using CAD software.
  • The test shall be held at CSL, Kochi.
• Step 5: Final Selection & Rank List
  • Rank list prepared based on marks secured in Practical Test.
  • Minimum pass marks:
    • UR/EWS: 50% of total marks
    • OBC: 45% of total marks (for OBC reserved seats)
    • SC/ST: 40% of total marks (for SC/ST reserved seats)
• CSL may relax the minimum pass mark if the number of qualified candidates is insufficient.

1. Visit the Cochin Shipyard official website at www.cochinshipyard.in.
2. Go to the Career page → CSL, Kochi.
3. Read the User Manual and FAQ published on the website before filling the online application.
4. Click on the online application link for Ship Draftsman Trainee.
5. Complete the One-time Registration in the SAP Online portal.
