The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Office of the Regional Director (Southern Region), Bengaluru has released an official notification for the engagement of Legal Consultant on court matters. The recruitment is on a contract basis for handling court cases related to ASI, Bangalore Circle, Dharwad Circle and Hampi Circle, Karnataka. Eligible candidates possessing a law degree with 10 years of experience in handling court cases in CAT, High Court, Supreme Court or CGIT can apply within 15 days from the date of publication.

Essential Eligibility Conditions
  • Degree in Law from a recognized University/National Institute.
  • Enrolled with any State Bar Council to practice as an Advocate.
  • Must be below the age of 65 Years as on the date of advertisement.
  • Possesses at least 10 years' experience in handling court cases related to administrative matters in CAT or High Court/Supreme Court on labour related issues in CGIT on a continuous basis.
  • Proficient in working on MS Word and other computer applications.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in working in Government/Autonomous Organizations/PSU.
  • Experience in dealing with matters pertaining to:
    • Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958
    • The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972

  • Maximum Age: 65 Years (as on 31 July 2026)

Remuneration & Benefits
  • Consolidated Remuneration: ₹70,000/- per month
  • Medical Allowances: Not applicable during the contract
  • Leave Entitlement: 08 days leave during 1-year engagement period
  • No other allowances or benefits are admissible

Period of Engagement
  • Initially for a period of 1 year.
  • May be extended on a yearly basis as per requirement.
  • Up to 5% increase in remuneration upon satisfactory performance, appraised by the Performance Appraisal Board (PAB).

Duties of Legal Consultant
  • Monitor all court cases of ASI, Office of the Regional Director, ASI, Bangalore Circle, Dharwad Circle and Hampi Circle, Karnataka.
  • Collect data required for drafting replies for court cases/legal matters.
  • Monitor judgments to be implemented to avoid contempt petitions.
  • Prepare notes for obtaining legal opinions from nodal ministries such as Ministry of Law, Department of Personnel and Training, Department of Expenditure and others.
  • Draft writ petitions, parawise replies, and counter affidavits.
  • Monitor Legal Information and Briefing Management System (LIMBS) portal.
  • Interact with Government Counsels and get replies filed in cases.
  • Ensure presence of Government Counsel on the date of hearing.
  • Draft counter affidavits/Parawise replies of court cases.
  • Prepare speaking orders as required in the judgments.
  • Any other work relating to court cases of ASI, Bangalore Circle, Dharwad Circle and Hampi Circle, Karnataka.

Selection Process
  • Scrutiny of applications by a Screening Committee.
  • Shortlisted applicants may be called for an Interview.
  • ASI reserves the right to cancel the advertisement at any stage.
  • The decision to accept or reject any application is final and binding.

Important Instructions
  • The engagement is purely on a contract basis and does not confer any right for regular appointment in ASI.
  • Working Hours: Normal office timings; may be called on Saturday, Sunday or holidays in case of urgency.
  • Attendance will be marked in AEBAS (or prescribed method) mandatorily, failing which may result in deduction of remuneration.
  • Income Tax or any other tax will be deducted at source as per Government instructions. TDS certificate will be issued.
  • Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of data collected and deliverables shall remain with ASI.
  • Consultant shall not utilize, publish, disclose, or share any data or information with third parties without ASI's written consent.
  • Consultant must sign a non-disclosure undertaking.
  • Consultant shall not represent or give advice against the interest of ASI.
  • During the engagement period, the consultant shall not undertake any other contract or project that may result in a conflict of interest.
  • No claim for benefit/compensation/absorption/regularization with ASI under Industrial Dispute Act, 1947 or Contract Labour Act, 1970 shall be entertained.

Termination of Agreement

The ASI may terminate the contract if:
  • The consultant is unable to address the assigned work.
  • Quality of assigned work is not to the satisfaction of the officer/ASI.
  • The consultant is found lacking in honesty and integrity.
