North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Umiam, an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India, has released the official notification for the recruitment of Research Scientist, Junior Research Fellow (JRF), and Project Associate-I on temporary project basis through Walk-in-Interview. NESAC invites applications from eligible candidates for a total of 16 positions in the fields of Geology, Computer Science, Disaster Management, Forestry, Atmospheric Science, and related disciplines.

The Walk-in-Interview will be conducted on 10th, 11th, and 12th August 2026 at NESAC, Umiam, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya (85 kms from Guwahati Railway Station and 18 kms from Shillong). Interested and eligible candidates are advised to check the educational qualifications, experience requirements, and age limits carefully before appearing for the interview.

About NESAC

North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Umiam is an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India, established to assist the development process in the North Eastern Region using space science and technology. NESAC undertakes specific applications projects using remote sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), satellite communication, and conducts space atmospheric science research.

NESAC provides services in natural resources management, infrastructure development, town planning, health, education, disaster management, earth observation applications mission, and other areas. The centre is located at Umiam, Meghalaya, 85 kms from Guwahati Railway Station and 18 kms from Shillong.

Educational Qualifications & Experience

1. Research Scientist (RS01) - Post Code: RS01
  • Qualification: First Class M.Sc./M.Tech/M.Sc.(Tech) in Geology/Applied Geology/Geophysics/Earth Science or equivalent. Ph.D in relevant field.
  • Desirable: Working experience in Geology/Applied Geology with research related to Ground water depletion study/landslide early warning/susceptibility study/GPS/GNSS/seismic surveying and data processing & analysis/Use of Remote Sensing and GIS.

2. Research Scientist (RS02) - Post Code: RS02
  • Qualification: First Class B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent with one year research/work experience.
  • Desirable: GIS & Remote Sensing, geospatial analytics, Python/JavaScript programming, PostGIS & GeoServer, AI/ML, satellite image processing, Cloud geospatial services, data visualization, web/mobile application development.

Tenure of Positions
  • Research Scientist: 1 Year (extendable up to 3 years based on performance/project requirement)
  • Junior Research Fellow (JRF): 1 Year (extendable up to 5 years based on performance/project requirement)
  • Project Associate-I: 1 Year (extendable up to 5 years based on performance/project requirement)
  • All positions are purely temporary and co-terminus with the project without any provision for regularization.

  • Walk-in-Interview
  • Selection will be purely based on performance in the interview.
  • Candidates will be asked to prove their identity by showing any Govt. issued identity card (AADHAR/Passport/etc.) before appearing for the interview.
  • Candidates must produce all relevant original documents along with self-attested photocopies at the time of interview.
  • Candidates employed under Central/State Government/PSU/Autonomous Bodies must produce "No Objection Certificate" in original at the time of interview.
