Educational Qualification

• Essential:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University.
  • Applicant should be registered as an Advocate in the Bar Council of India or State Bar Council, in terms of the Advocates Act, 1961.
• For Retired Government Servants:
  • Central Government servants retired from the position of SO/US/DS/Director may also apply subject to having a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized University and having legal experience.
• For Private Applicants:
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience at Bar or experience of working in Government Department or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) having handled legal work and Court cases.
  • Registration and work experience certificates must be enclosed with the application.
• Additional Requirements:
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Computer applications such as MS-Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint etc. is essential.
  • Must have good knowledge of the LIMBS (Legal Information Management & Briefing System) portal.

Scope of Work / Duties

• To aid in preparing para-wise comments, counter affidavits, petitions, applications, etc. across courts, tribunals, and other statutory authorities filed against or by the Department.
• Monitoring of pending court cases, to assist and be present in the court at the time of hearing.
• Perform such other work of a legal nature as may be entrusted from time to time by the Department.
• Vetting of draft affidavits prepared by Government Counsels to be filed in various judicial/quasi-judicial forums in cases where the Department has been made a respondent.
• Assist the Department in policy decisions/matters.
• Draft/scrutinise rules, regulations, and review Acts/Laws handled by the Department.

Contract Period & Terms

• Initial Period: 6 months (short-term contract basis)
• Extension: May be extended for a further 6 months but not exceeding one year, subject to appraisal of performance and need-based requirements.
• Performance Review: Performance will be reviewed after every 3 months. Contract shall be extended or discontinued depending upon performance.
• Important: No right will be accrued in favour of the consultant regarding renewal of contract, absorption in service, etc. The decision of the Department shall be final in this regard.

• Screening of Applications: Applications received by post will be screened based on eligibility criteria and qualifications.
• Shortlisting: Short-listed candidates will be considered for engagement as per functional requirements of the Department.
• Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview/personal interaction.
