Candidates preparing for the Junior Technician posts across various trades including Electrician, Electronic Mechanic, Electroplater, Fitter General, Foundrymen, Machinist, Mechanic Machine Tool Maintenance, OMHE at Raw Material Handling Plant, Painter General, Quality Assurance Assistant, Rigger, Welder, and Forger and Heat Treater must review the subject-wise syllabus carefully to plan their preparation effectively.

Subject-wise Syllabus for Trade Test
1. Junior Technician (Electrician)
- Operation & maintenance of transformers, HT/LT, Switch gear and protective devices in the substation
- Installation & maintenance of HT/LT overhead lines and laying of cables
- Interpretation of complicated wiring diagrams & maintenance of AC/DC machines, machine tools, furnaces, welding sets & other equipment
- Winding of AC/DC Machines coils etc. and repairing of commutator
- Knowledge of different insulating materials & winding wires
- Knowledge of elementary electronic devices - diodes, transistors etc. and precautions while testing PCB and electronic/power electronic devices
- Connecting and testing electric meters, furnaces, relays, pyrometers, recorders etc. working in medium pressure independently
- Cutting off and restoring power to any plant or Section and identifying/rectifying defective circuits
- Testing & setting of relays for overload, earth leakage, reverse power etc.
- Operating high tension switch gears in receiving stations & setting of relays for high tension circuits
- Reading electronic circuit diagrams, repair and maintenance of Electronics Instruments, projector, Micro-Phone, electronic Timer, Electrical Instruments and meters
- Reading electrical ladder diagrams, electronic circuit diagrams, logic diagrams and wiring diagrams
- Reading and understanding data books and reference manuals of analog and digital electronic devices and components
- Knowledge of thyristor drives, memory devices, integrated circuits
- Tracing, trouble shooting, repairing and maintaining various electronic circuits, Printed Circuit Boards, drive circuits etc.
- Electronic component testing and soldering/de-soldering works
- Use of various general purpose electronic testing and measuring equipments like oscilloscope, multi-meters, power supply units, IC testers and LCR meters
- Elementary knowledge of the processes of degreasing and pickling
- Use of scratch brush for polishing of plated jobs
- Connecting parts to electrodes according to instructions
- Knowledge of the processes of degreasing and pickling different metals and alloys
- Handling different types of plating baths - Copper, Nickel, Tin etc.
- Knowledge of soldering
- Keeping records of plating times, reading and using instruments such as hydrometers, thermometers, micrometers, voltmeters and ammeters
- Making up and using pickling solutions and plating solutions
- Adjusting current and voltages on plating vats and making simple electric connections such as those required for charging accumulators
- Knowledge of safety precautions as well as precautions required for ensuring satisfactory plating
- Reading simple blue prints or taking measurements, utilising a foot rule and callipers both internal as well as external
- Carrying out simple fitting operations such as filing, chipping, reaming, tapping or screw cutting by hand and taps dies
- Elementary ability to use simple workshop machinery such as that required for drilling and rough grinding on emery stone
- Elementary working knowledge of Compressors and ability to carry out simple fitting operation as required for routine maintenance of compressors
- Checking lubrication and cooling system and detecting incorrect working as well as adjusting outgoing pressure of compressed air
- Working to dimensions from simple sketches on from templates supplied
- Elementary knowledge of hardening and tempering tools in common use and ability to operate simple power hammers if available
- Making simple welds by hand methods
- Operating the machine including checking by means of simple "go" and "no go" gauges the quality of the outturn
- Sufficient idea of the machine to enable periodical lubrication to be carried out
- Reading pressure gauges and extruding solids and hallows sections independently and reading a micrometer
- General knowledge of driving mechanism and control parts of the extrusion press
- Reading complicated drawings, setting on and working on general purpose machines and special purpose machines
- Setting comparatively complicated jobs in machines using improve wise methods as necessary
- Conversant with use of micro meters, Vernier calipers, outside calipers etc.
- Ability to carry out any other works of similar nature not mentioned above
- Use of a file and a chisel and carrying out simple hand operations such as filing, tapping, sawing, screwing and chipping etc. by hand tools
- Elementary knowledge of handling machines - stripping and assembling simple machine parts
- Driving trucks with care and judging safety and weight on the truck
- Driving any battery or petrol/diesel driven appliances for material handling purposes
- Driving cranes with great accuracy, care and judgment
- Fair knowledge of the process being carried out in the building where material needs to be shifted
- Detecting and rectifying the minor defects developing in vehicles/cranes and its motive power equipment
- Knowledge of operating steam boilers and engines
- Knowledge of regulations of safety rules
- Knowledge of mixing paints and rough painting boxes, boards, doors, windows or components
- Cutting stencils of English/Hindi lettering and figuring
- Cutting stencils in various types of materials
- Carrying out the jobs specified for semi-skilled to a higher degree of finish
- Writing notice Boards, sign Boards etc. at any height
- Carrying own tools, implements and materials required for day to day work
- Knowledge of limits and tolerances as laid down in various specifications
- Use of precision measuring instruments and carrying out complex calculations independently
- Making sketches as necessary and reading complicated drawings
- Knowledge of the various methods of measurement and of adjusting comparative simple instruments like a micrometer or Vernier gauge
- Knowledge of the functions of the various parts of machines and carrying out tests of bearings, sling surfaces etc. and checking the accuracy of the machines
- Handling and hoisting heavy load including those in inconvenient positions
- Knowledge of the Rigger/Slingers work
- Good physique and active habits and ability to work at height
- Proper use and maintenance of slings, ropes and tackles and cranes and their upkeep
- Improvising structures to carry lifting tackle
- Working knowledge of the safety regulations applying to the upkeep of all lifting appliances
- Knowledge of welding rods and fluxes used for various metals
- Operating low pressure oxy-acetylene and/or electric welding plant
- Carrying out welding of difficult materials such as aluminium or thin steel sheet
- Welding simple joints according to instructions
- Knowledge of brazing and soldering
- Coupling Oxygen cylinders in multiple bank
- Flame out
- Recognising and identifying surface defects on steel and removing them with deseaming equipment
- Good knowledge of safety precautions in handling Oxy-Acetylene appliances
- Good physique and capability of working in hot sections
- Knowledge of steam hammer or forging presses
- Working to dimensions from forging drawings
- Taking control of forging furnaces for heating material to required temperature for forging
- Use of tackle in lifting hot steel billets & ingots and handling these during forging
