Objectives of the Chair
The S.R. Sankaran Chair aims to:
- Facilitate research on welfare and protection of rural labour.

- Strengthen interaction among scholars, policymakers and civil society groups.
- Enhance knowledge, policy advocacy and collective action for rural labour welfare.
- Organize consultations, seminars and workshops on issues related to rural labour.

Experience Required
Candidates must possess:
- Minimum 10 years of teaching or research experience as Professor or equivalent grade in a University, College or National Level Institute.
- Minimum 10 years of outstanding professional experience in Rural Labour and Employment equivalent to the level of Professor.
Age Limit
- Maximum Age: 62 Years
- Age shall be reckoned as on 15 July 2026.
Remuneration
- Remuneration shall be on par with Professors of Central Universities.
- Salary shall not exceed the maximum pay admissible to a Senior Professor in a Central University.
- For retired Government employees, remuneration will be regulated as per Government of India guidelines.
- Pay for retired employees shall be Basic Pay at retirement minus Pension.
Tenure of Appointment
- Initial tenure shall be 01 Academic Year.
- May be extended up to 03 Academic Years through mutual consultation.
- In special circumstances, a tenure of 06 months may also be considered.
Facilities Provided
Selected Chair Professor will be entitled to:
- Economy class airfare for self, spouse and dependent children once during the tenure.
- Rent-free accommodation at NIRDPR campus.
- Medical facilities as per NIRDPR norms.
- Domestic airfare for lectures, workshops and official research activities.
- Support of a Junior Research Officer.
- Secretarial assistance for academic and research work.
Expected Academic Output
- Deliver 3–4 public lectures on rural labour.
- Organize consultations and seminars at NIRDPR and outreach institutions.
- Conduct workshops related to rural labour issues.
- Prepare 2–3 technical papers or research studies for publication in reputed journals.
